I'm Back!

Image
It has been like 2 years since the last time I posted something in this blog. I don't even remember that I have this blog actually till one of my students informed me that their teacher was using one of my posts as a reference. Well, that post was not originally from me and I did give my credit to the original source or writer. What I have been doing since 2 years back till now. Well, I'm still teaching while working at the same time. I have added another subject under my portfolio which is Ekonomi Asas. Yes, though it is not as tough as Mathematics or Sciences subjects but I'm not really enjoying this subject as much as I'm enjoying English.  haha... What else?  I managed to open up my own tuition center in Bandar Sri Damansara. Yes, It's my own tuition center. I don't want to write further on this center first till you finished your 'scrolling down' work. This is the logo. That head-bulb is so freaking awesome, thanks Jen for the design. "Creating...

Possessive Nouns

Quick English Lesson 1 Making nouns possessive. 1. To show someone owns something = add apostrophe and an 's'; Examples: The nose of Adam = Adam's nose The car of Richard = Richard's car 2. To show two people have the same thing = add aposthrophe and an 's' for only the second person; Examples: Shima and Mimi's marriage (they share one marriage) Kate and Megan's father (they share one father) 3. To show two people don't own the same thing = add aposthrophe and an 's' for both people Examples: Shima's and Mimi's marriage Kate's and Megan's father 4. To show possession when noun is PLURAL = Plural ends in 's' (for example, boys) just add an aposthrophe. If the Plural doesn't end in 's' (for example, women) add an aposthrophe and an 's'; Examples: The boys' jackets (plural noun, more than one items) The women's dresses (plural noun, more than one items) Caution - Major Mistake Territory! Proper...

HAS or HAVE?

It is not that hard to differentiate between HAS or HAVE (well, some people always make  mistake when it comes to this basic rule). WHEN to use HAS? 1. Singular noun: Example: He has two slices of cake. ( 'He' is a singular pronoun for male) Example: One of the pupils has finished the work early. ( 'One' shows singular) 2. Uncountable noun: Example: The rain has come. ( 'Rain' is an uncountable noun - we can't count rain!) WHEN to use HAVE? 1. Plural noun: Example: They have gone home. ( 'They' indicates more than one) 2. I Example: I have to buy five books and three pencils. 3. You Example: You have already seen the show, haven't you? So, no more mistake =)

That's mean OR That means?

That means (correct) That's mean (wrong) If one says Thats mean you will go lah?, would that sound right? If yes, then will That is mean you will go lah? sound right now? No matter how you look at it, its just so, wrong. Direct translation: Ia adalah kejam (mean=kejam) awak nak pergi lah? Its been fossilised in their head to use Thats/Its mean instead of That/It means that they a re so confident of, even after repetitiously being told its not right. Conclusion: Thats mean ? That means Source: Cikgu Idris's blog

Who, Whom, Whose?

My students don't know how to differentiate between WHO, WHOM and WHOSE. Here is the easy explanations: 1. WHO: a subject pronoun like "he," "she" and "we". We use "who" to ask which person does an action or which person is a certain way. Example: Who made the birthday cake? 2. WHOM: is an object pronoun like "him," "her" and "us." We use "whom" to ask which person receives an action. Example: Whom are you going to invite for the party? 3. WHOSE: is a possessive pronoun like "his," "her" and "our." We use "whose" to find out which person something belongs to. Example: Whose camera is this? Crystal clear?
